Sculpture Key West, 2005

This artwork is an eleven foot replica of the distinctive 1896 Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in America. The piece continuously played Donna Fargo's 1974 hit song, "You Can't be a Beacon (if Your Light Don't Shine)". Written by Martin Cooper, this country gospel tune was linked to Nixon's resignation. The singing lighthouse was exhibited on the beach not far from the water's edge. As in the song lyrics, the light don't shine.

Sculpture Key West is an annual exhibition of contemporary outdoor sculpture set in an historic state park in Key West, Florida. For more information go to: http://sculpturekeywest.com/
